A very festive afternoon with lively music, tasty food, and a broad variety of political and nonpolitical people mixing, meeting, and mingling–everyone happily focused on making the top of the underground parking garage into a friendly, much-needed gathering place with a sense of community for the folks of Ann Arbor and their visitors.

I don’t know if it will end up as a community gathering space or not, but I can’t imagine where the city thinks a high-rise building could go on the site. The available footprint is pretty small as the entrances/exits, stairs, etc. of the underground structure uses lots of the available surface.

Didn’t the city pass on their desires to the architect of the underground parking – maximize the surface space.
