The area was filled with mist as University of Michigan workers blew compressed air through the sprinkler system. A worker told me that people often ask if it is a toxic mist. Nope. Just water and air. They are winterizing the fountains and sprinklers all over campus, and the suggestion was made that everyone do the same this week before it is too late. I was really happy to have happened upon this event. It really looked – and sounded – cool. I’m sorry that the fountain was already put to bed for the winter, I had walked up there especially to see it one last time before spring. But the water show of all the sprinklers blasting out water and air together at once, and slowly coming to fizzling end, really made up for it. It is time to store the hose, and drain my garden’s underground passive irrigation system. Mine is made up of sealed clay pots made into capsules, buried amidst the plants and fed by a bucket fitted with a tank valve, and that is fed by a hose. It has worked well all summer.
People ask if the University is dispersing a toxic mist!?
I chatted with a worker who was monitoring the process, and he said it is a common question, many people ask if something toxic is being sprayed.
