There’s a dilemma posed by the orientation: do you set up the rack to suggest that cyclists should be entering from and exiting onto the sidewalk? Or do you set up the rack oriented to the street?
I think back in July, the folks running the free valet bike parking for the art fairs confronted the same dilemma by providing access from either direction. Spending on the racks they’re testing out were authorized by the DDA earlier this year: Link to previous Chronicle coverage.
