Last night around 7 p.m. I saw at least a dozen Maple Leaf fans all trudging through the unshoveled sidewalks along Plymouth Road looking very tired. I stopped to offer a ride to two of them and learned that the driver of their “promised bus” back to the Park N Ride at Plymouth and US-23 had told them (as they were dropped off at Michigan Stadium) that they would NOT be getting a ride back. Having no other options, they decided to walk. I gave them a ride and then went back and picked up two others because it was just so horrible out.

In praise of our visiting hockey fans (and I am not and never have been a sports lover): The friendliness, exuberance, and camaraderie of our visitors from Canada (and points east) created a noticeably uplifting atmosphere in our town at the NHL Classic this past weekend. It was fun to see so many of them having fun, despite the cold and snow; and they certainly knew how to dress for maximum warmth. Some even tailgated early in the morning before the game and did not seem to mind having to park at a considerable distance from the Big House. They came to enjoy themselves and, I think, truly achieved that goal. Now that they know the way to Ann Arbor, I hope that they come to visit our town again.
