Are the roll-over captions new, or have I been missing them all this time?

Re. roll-over captions: I believe they began appearing in 2012, but with Bezonki, you can never be too sure.

Although, in Firefox’s defense, I will say: Dave, Mary, you’re doing it wrong. the ALT attribute is supposed to replace the image if the image doesn’t load. Popup or rollover text is indicated by the TITLE attribute. Unfortunately, IE decided to implement rollovers with ALT, and people started to exploit that, and most other browsers followed suit. But Firefox follows the spec, which means FF users don’t see the rollovers. If you really want to get the behavior you’re after in all browsers, you should put the rollover text in BOTH the ALT and the TITLE attribute.

Semi-relatedly: I’m curious what your browser breakdown is between IE, FF, Safari, Chrome, etc.

I take it back, you are using TITLE. Forgive me for having no faith in you. I’m back to “Damn you, Firefox” again.)

And I can’t see any of it on my iPad. One of these days I’ll get myself a computer again.

In retrospect I suppose I may have seen the captions months back and ignored them, along with a lot of other digital trash that tags along while pages open, and I keep my cursor away to keep the page clean. That said, it’s a fun thing to do, maybe the next step is to have readers and interviews and others, provide sound effects, so trolling a cursor over an image evokes a sound instead — found sounds, guest cartoon foley artists.
