Skateboarders get a $100 ticket for making their own skatepark downtown, while dog enthusiasts create well-known outlaw dog parks almost every day.

I get much more worried for my safety when I see a dog off-leash than when I see a skateboarder roaming free.

I’m with you completely on this. And not just my safety, but my shoes.

There is a huge need for more public dog parks in Ann Arbor, just as there is a need for more places where you can skate legally. Right now, with the shortage of public dog parks, there are very few options for maintaining healthy, happy, well-socialized dogs. How can we advocate for more dog parks?

Ironically, there’s a large strip of vacant land right across Crest Street from the Slauson fields. I believe it may be City-owned. Perhaps the neighborhood dog owners could lobby their councilmembers for a dog park and then pool their own resources for a fence, maintenance, etc.
